Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 10, 2026
RecipeBox ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
RecipeBox is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal information:
- Recipe Data: The recipes, ingredients, meal plans, shopping lists, collections, and cooking notes you create are stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account.
- Pantry Items: Ingredients you add to your pantry for the "What Can I Cook?" feature are stored locally and in iCloud.
- Usage Analytics: We may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve the app experience. This data cannot be used to identify you.
- Purchase Information: If you subscribe to Premium, Apple handles all payment processing. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status.
Device Permissions
RecipeBox may request the following device permissions:
- Photo Library: To select photos from your library to add to your recipes. Photos are stored locally and in iCloud only.
Note: RecipeBox's voice-guided cooking feature uses text-to-speech, which does not require any permissions as it only outputs audio and does not record or listen.
AI Features
RecipeBox includes AI-powered features using Apple Intelligence:
- AI Recipe Generator: Uses on-device Apple Intelligence to generate recipes from your ingredients. All processing happens locally on your device - no data is sent to external servers.
- Recipe Variations: AI-generated variations of existing recipes are processed entirely on-device.
Apple Intelligence requires compatible hardware (iPhone 15 Pro or later, iPad/Mac with M1+). AI features are not available on older devices.
Share Extension
The RecipeBox Share Extension allows you to import recipes from websites and other apps. When you share content to RecipeBox:
- The shared URL or text is processed locally on your device
- No data is transmitted to our servers
- Imported recipes are stored in your personal iCloud account
How Your Data is Stored
Your recipe data is stored in two places:
- On Your Device: Using Apple's SwiftData framework for local storage.
- In iCloud: If you have iCloud enabled, your data syncs across your Apple devices using CloudKit. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is not accessible to us.
Third-Party Services
RecipeBox uses the following Apple services:
- Apple iCloud: For syncing your recipes across devices. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple StoreKit: For processing in-app purchases. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Intelligence: For on-device AI features. All processing is local - no data leaves your device.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. Your recipes remain private and are never shared without your explicit consent.
Data Retention
Your recipe data remains on your device and in your iCloud account until you choose to delete it. We do not maintain copies of your data on our servers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all your recipe data directly within the app
- Export your recipes
- Delete any or all of your recipes at any time
- Disable iCloud sync in your device settings
Children's Privacy
RecipeBox does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences.
